Happy Thanksgiving/Black Friday - Playing Catch Up

This is my 5th attempt to post an entry...

Yesterday my mouse was not working...today my pictures won't load... Hmm....

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving Day!

We had a nice Thanksgiving yesterday--we had dinner at my sister's house.

This morning, Lizzy and I woke up at 3 a.m. and did the Black Friday thingy. We arrived at the mall about a quarter to 4, and we were surprised to see people already heading for their cars to leave with bags and bags of shopping. CRAZY I tell you!! We covered a lot of ground and did a lot of shopping, but we are no where near done shopping. By 10 a.m. our feet hurt, and are toes were screaming. Poor Lizzy had to go to work at 5:30 today. She was able to get in a few hours of sleep, but I haven't yet. Since she works at the mall, she can't park in the regular parking lot, so we dropped her off. She get's out at 12:30 am, and here I am attempting to make this entry. Hopefully I will be successful, and go to sleep. I only got 3 hours sleep last night..

Here is Lizzy modeling her new Xmas pajama find we found at Target!

I am Alive :)

Hello!

Gee, it's been awhile since I've posted, hasn't it?

I've been a very busy, and sick woman.

I have been "under the weather" for almost TWO weeks and feeling this badly really sucks, BIG time.

Meanwhile, here is an update of my weekend:

The Christmas Boutique: It went well...and I had some very nice, and odd visitors at my Avon booth. When I feel better, I can tell you some stories... The gift bags that I failed to take pictures of to show you all sold! Half of them I sold on the last day of the boutique, and the rest was taken to work where I sold the remainder in 15 minutes. It was pretty amazing how fast SkinSoSoft (at the right price) sells!

Two full days at the church hall was a little overwhelming. Like I wrote earlier, there were a select few odd people. One included a woman who entered her parrot (his name is Milt) into my raffle. Luckily, I didn't pull Milt's name on the day of my raffle. If I did, I would have pulled another. I learned quite quickly that Christmas Boutiques attract a different array of people. I will not go into detail... I'm trying to block some of these individuals out of my memory-especially the guy with dark glasses who disclosed his large collection of Wild Country Cologne Avon dispensers. Luckily, my sister-inlaw drove down to help me on both days. I think when she how sickly and crappy I looked and sounded like, she felt she needed to be there.. No matter, I really appreciated the company.
I joined Facebook.. (Waving to Lisa Jo & Lyn) If you have it, please let me know! I reconnected with some old friends from school as well--it's pretty neat! :)
On a happier note, today was my son's first basketball game on his first team. Every since he has changed high schools two weeks ago, he has been playing on the Jr. Varsity Basketball team. It was nice to see him on the court actually playing!!! He has NEVER been able to involved in afterschool sports, so it was great seeing him out there playing. No, they didn't win, but it didn't matter to me.

Okay, that was a quick update. Tomorrow I will not "work" as in going to work, but I will be WORKING. Seriously, I think I work more at home than I do at my job. My work at the office is almosted considered a BREAK for me. I will spend the day at the grocery store, working on my desserts for Thanksgiving, and possibly buying already made pies and cakes. I'm not going to force myself to go beyond my capabilities especially when I'm not feeling well. I am no Martha Stuart anyway. Her "perfect" iced cookies still upset me. I swear that woman must be part alien or something---it's just not natural for anyone to make such perfect iced cookies... We are having dinner at my sister's house. I also need to clean my house. Last weekend it was not done, and I have toilet bowls to scrub.

I still have pictures to share... Hopefully in between cleaning toilets, I can share them with you...

Have a wonderful tomorrow.. I'm pooped!!!

Better, But Still Crappy

Hello -

I am feeling better, but this sinus infection has really worn me down for the past week. I still wake up with gook in my eyes, and a very dry and red nose, and besides my head feeling like it was kicked in three different places, I feel just "swell"... My voice (I lost it for a few days) is getting progressively better, but I still sound like an old lady who smokes two packs of Camels, chasing it down with a bottle of Vodka. As for Nyquil, okay I NEVER really tasted a pine tree, but, if a pine tree could be liquidfied into cold medicine, it would be Nyquil. Eeeeeewww... I'm on Sudafed and Advil at the moment, and I am feeling better.

Another odd advertisement from the 30's...

Nicholas, I'm happy to report is 100% well.

Husband is getting sick, but not too bad-I don't think he'll get it as hard.

I have 4 more gift bags to make before my Christmas Boutique this weekend. Saturday and Sunday I will be sitting in the church hall from 9-5 pushing perfume, lipstick and SSS... I hope this darn gift sets I made sell! I need to post a few pictures of them. Tania and Lizzy seem to think they are pretty.. I also have basket I made for a free raffle I have-it's an Angel theme. I need to post them on here so you can see. I know, I still haven't posted that picture of Liz with her signed Erik Estrada picture.... May be I'll kill two birds with one stone and post them both.

At the moment I can't smell anything, and that is probably a good thing, because this ghetto office building I work in has terrible plumbing. The toilets have backed up yet again, and from what I hear the hallways stink.. Apparently they sold this building, and the new buyer has promised to gut out the women's and men's bathrooms entirely, and have promised the tenants to replace them with new marble bathrooms, and new carpets, and the Miami Vice wallpaper is coming down... Promises, promises... Currently there is a huge wet spot between the women's and men's bathroom. Apparently sewage is coming up from the sink in the little closet between the two bathrooms. Lovely. I don't want to think of all the germs in the air right now.. Did I mention that the women's bathroom had mushrooms growing in the corner of the ceiling? Lovely.

Okay......another strange advertisement...

Thanksgiving is almost here. Have you done any Christmas shopping? Do you realize that this year is almost over! Is it just me, or has this year just flown by a little too fast?

Just Me Feeling Sickly

Hello -

Thank you guys for all the pink eye suggestions. Last night Nicholas surprised us when he calmy lay down on his bed, and let his daddy put drops in his eyes. I guess it's not as scary as he once thought it was. Afterwards he sat up and gave his daddy a big hug. Awww... He is getting better, but he has a cough and stuffy nose-he isn't ready for school yet. May be tommorow.

It is true. Nyquil medicine tastes like a Christmas tree! Eeeww. I am officially sick. My throat is throbbing, my nose is stuffed up, and I basically feel "yucky". Mix that all with cramps (ain't it "swell" being a woman?) I'm basically look like crap. Oh well. I woke up all hot and sweaty and actually took a cold shower and let it progressively get warmer, and warmer--that felt sooo good. I think that Nyquil worked on me pretty well, but the taste for God's sake! It's just plain horrible!! At least I don't have pink eye yet---Missie.. I'm won't be surprised if it eventually happens. Sigh.

I'm at work with piles in front of me that I must conquer. I'm alone today, with the music playing, and I better make the most of it!

I am WAY BEHIND on my journal reading. I'm SORRY!!! I will try and get to them all soon! I want to thank you for the advice about putting pictures on my sidebar as well. Great suggestions-I just haven't had the time to actually try it! I miss comment alerts, and entry alerts.... Don't you?

Take care, and don't get sick! It really sucks!

Can you believe this is an actual article from the 30's?

Pink Eye Is Not Fun

This week is proving to be an equally busy week for our family.

Nicholas has come down with a case of PINK eye. He is not a happy camper. He does not like the eye drops we have to put in his eyes. To make matters worse, he is now complaining that his ear hurts. Why the doctor did not check his ears yesterday is beyond me. Now I'm afraid he is has pink eye AND ear infection. Damm.

Putting eye drops in his eyes is quite impossible. He won't do it willingly. We called the advice nurse for his doctor who told us to "hold him down" even if it meant sitting on him. Lovely. Well, luckily we didn't sit on the poor kid, but hopefully the drops crept into the eyes of his somehow. His eyes do look better than yesterday, but they are not 100%.

This afternoon, when I was looking for the drops to put in I couldn't find them. I looked everywhere, and then checked everywhere again. I could not find them! While looking up and down, everywhere, Nicholas said nothing, but he looked fearful that I would eventually find them. I then called his doctor and asked them to refill them. This made Nicholas very upset because he thought he had to go to the doctor's again. As soon as I got off the phone, Nicholas exclaimed:

"You didn't look in that closet."

He then pointed to the little closet in my room. I went over to it, and sure enough, sitting on the edge of a box was the small eye drop container. I guess he realized it was a losing battle at that point.

I don't remember putting it in there, and I'm guessing he did when I wasn't looking, but I've been so frazzled out lately, it could have been me who put it there. Anyway, to Nick's dismay he got another dosage, and he is due for 2 more tonight. Lovely. It's not fun wrestling with a 5 year old only to squirt the eye drops to his tightly clinched eyes, only hoping some will seep through, while the poor little guy is crying aligator tears. It's not my favorite thing to do-especially when he shouts stop, and asks for "a kiss" or "a hug" instead. :(

At the moment he is laying on the couch trying to get a nap. I'm hoping he does...he is worn out. (As well as I, but no naps for me...)

Saturday was Nicholas' birthday party-that went rather well, and Sunday I got some stuff done. Monday involved Andrew's first day at his new high school-(which went rather well by the way), and dr. appointments and eye drops. I did not work yesterday--WHY we celebrate a holiday on Tuesday instead of Monday is beyond me. At least today is a holiday, but I'm not quite sure if I will be in at work tomorrow either. Nicholas definitely doesn't look like he is ready for school yet-he may have to stay with my mom tomorrow...

I got two more boxes of Skin So Soft---I have 10 more bags to make until I'm headed to the church all to sell my Avon. I will post a picture once I'm done with all of them.

Oh..I finally got some Halloween pictures, and some pictures from Nick's party...

Here's our evil nurse vampire, Lizzy above, and there is Liz again below dressed for Day of The Dead girl, with her speckled boyfriend, the panda bear..

Blogger is not cooperating... More photos coming later! I have to make a meatloaf right now anyway!

Happy Veteran's Day!

I didn't write this-I got this in an email-too sweet not to share. Remember our veterans! Happy Veteran's Day!

Daddy's Poem
Her hair was up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow. Today was Daddy's Day at school, and she couldn't wait to go. But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home, why the kids might not understand, if she went to school alone. But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today. But still her mother worried for her to face this day alone. And that was why once again, she tried to keep her daughter home. But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all about a dad she never sees a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet. Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats. One by one the teacher called a student from class To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.
At last the teacher called her name, every child turned to stare. Each of them was searching, a man who wasn't there. 'Where's her daddy at?' She heard a boy call out. ' She probably doesn't have one,' another student dared to shout.
And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say, ' Looks like another deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day.
'The words did not offend her, as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher, who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique.

'My Daddy couldn't be here, because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,since this is such a special day.
And though you cannot meet him,I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy, and how much he loves me so.
He loved to tell me storieshe taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses, and taught me to fly a kite.
We used to share fudge sundaes, and ice cream in a cone
And though you cannot see him
I'm not standing here alone
'Cause my daddy's always with me,
even though we are apartI know because he told me,
he'll forever be in my heart'
With that, her little hand reached up, and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat, beneath her favorite dress.
And from somewhere there in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter, who was wise beyond her years.
For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her, doing what was right
And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd
She finished with a voice so soft, but its message clear and loud.

'I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star
And if he could, he'd be here, but heaven's just too far
You see he is a Marine and died just this past year
When a roadside bomb hit his convoy and taught Americans to fear
But sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away.
And then she closed her eyes, and saw him there that day.
And to her mother's amazement, she witnessed with surprise
A room full of daddies and children, all starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they saw before them,
who knows what they felt inside.

Perhaps for merely a second, they saw him at her side.
'I know you're with me Daddy, to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
of those once filled with doubt.
Not one in that room could explain it
for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.
And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing, that heaven is never too far.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Take the time...to live and love. Until eternity. God bless!
There must be many children in the same boat as this little girl. Thanks to our servicemen and women and their families for the sacrifice they are making to keep our country Free.

Good morning!!

I haven't really put in a decent post all week, mostly because it's been a VERY BUSY week.

I've switched my older son's high school, and Monday will be his first day. His last day at his old high school was on Halloween. I am SO GLAD he will be back in school again soon. He had to get his TB shot, and then we had to wait two days for the results, and then he had to get his transcripts sent..etc. He is coming from a high school from a totally different county, so it added to all the delays. Yesterday he got his classes, and his gym clothes, and all he needs to do Monday morning is get his books and his PC. Yes, they give each student a laptop at this school. It's great-really-as long as the students to manipulate it to IM eachother in class or update their Myspace. Yeah, it happens, believe me. My daughter finished high school at this school and my step-son is currently a senior. It may be the reason why the juniors and seniors didn't get a lap-top this year...

I'm really hoping this change of high schools will get Andrew motivated a little more. He was not doing well at the old high school. He will be finally going to school in the same city he lives in, 3 blocks away in fact, and he can particpate in afterschool sports. Best of all, he WANTED to change schools, so how could I refuse this. His main worry was no longer keeping my mom company during the week like he had been, but we will just have to make some adjustments in that area. Grandma will have to visit us more often during the week.

Our main objective now is to get the "laziness" out of him. He has morning basketball practice, and you don't know how long it actually took us both to get his little boney butt (he is very skinny) out of bed this morning. Staying up until 1am is no longer going to fly anymore. Urrrg... We thought his practice was at 9 so we were rushing him out of bed, and as soon as he got out of the shower, he was told by his step son that it was actually at 10 am. Thanks. Of course his step-brother thought it was hilarious. Teenagers...

Halloween was fun--pictures coming--I am so far behind...

Election was quite historical. I keep remembering McCain speech, and the sea of majority of white in the audience. Sorry, but it's true. Then watching the Obama acceptance speech and seeing the tears of an audience in all colors----white, red, black, brown, yellow.... America. I love this country!

Nicholas turned 5 on Wedneday-pictures coming later-haven't had time yet to download them... We are having a party for him today (still have some grocery shopping to do.) He is thrilled to be 5 years old!

I have attempted to download pictures from photobucket on my sidebar with no success. They keep asking me where the source is-and no matter how many times I mark "the web" it won't work. I also cannot download videos. Anyone have suggestions???

Right now I have hair color in my hair, and I think the 30 minute time limit is coming up very soon...

Have an AWESOME weekend. (Thanks Lisa Jo for the graphics on this page---love you.)

Time for a CHANGE!

All I can say, it's about time.

Congratulations Mr. President!

You've got my full support!

Okay, my "Rebublican" husband, who didn't vote, is a little bummed. And I know a lot of my blogger friends, and relatives are equally as bummed. McCain, I must say, spoke very graciously a few hours ago. His words were very impressive, and touching-he was at his best.

It's now time to unite and get to work!

God Bless America!
